First Grade

  • The first grade students are being taught many subjects daily.
  • They also have the opportunity to participate in specials, centers, and library time.
  • Religion -Introduction of a new chapter every week. They learn new vocabulary and names of important people in Bible stories.
  • Reading - A new story each week involves high frequency words, practice book pages, and art projects.
  • English - The children learn punctuation, capitalization, nouns, and action words. Reinforced through worksheets & activities.
  • Spelling - Each week the children learn six unit words and a related practice book pages.
  • Mathematics - Basic Math skills - addition to 12, 3 number adding, patterns, skip counting, and number order.
  • Handwriting - The children practice letters everyday through repetition. The book focuses on one letter each day.
  • Phonics - Short vowel sounds - beginning and ending sounds and long vowels.
  • Music - Learn basic musical notation, how to read and follow manuscript, sing in harmony within a group, liturgical music.
  • Computers - Students review the rules of using a computer in a laboratory setting. Students will receive their first individual username and password. The students engage in activities related to basic phonics and math skills as well as become familiar with the equipment in a computer lab. Furthermore, students are instructed on lab etiquette and work on activities designed to help enhance fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Students will continue to learn the layout of a keyboard as a preview to typing. Students begin to learn basic functions of all Microsoft Office Products. Students learn age appropriate internet safety with Faux Paw the Techno Cat. This is the first year students will receive a satisfactory/non satisfactory grade for computers.

  • Second Grade

  • Religion - A primary focus of instruction in grade two is the preparation to meet Jesus in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The children learn about the Sacrament as a sign of God's forgiveness and are encouraged to show their love by acts of penance. The learn to share God's peace and forgiving love with others. By early May, pupils are aware that Christ come to them in Communion and unites them with Himself and one another. Prior to the date of the Sacrament of First Communion, students come together for a full day of prayer, preparation and reflection on this special Sacrament. Activities promote fellowship and spiritual growth. Children come away from this retreat grateful for God's love, empowered to live the Mass by serving Him and one another. Students prepare for the Sacraments in religion class, but will receive their Sacraments of Initiation at their home parish unless given pastor permission to do otherwise
  • Spanish - Español Para Ti program, students will be able to say simple greetings and know vocabulary words. They will also learn to pray in Spanish.
  • Music - Learn basic musical notation, how to read and follow manuscript, sing in harmony within a group, liturgical music.
  • Computers - Students will begin to learn all the parts of the computer and will be able to name all the parts correctly. Students will begin entry level typing. Students learn most basic functions of all Microsoft Office Products. Students learn age appropriate internet safety with Faux Paw the Techno Cat. Students receive a satisfactory/non satisfactory grade for computers at this level.

  • Third Grade

  • Music - Learn basic musical notation, how to read and follow manuscript, sing in harmony within a group, liturgical music.
  • Computers - This is the first year students will receive a letter grade for computers. Students will learn all the parts of the computer and will be able to name all the parts correctly. Students will have quizzes at this level. Students will begin typing with Garfield Typing Pal. Students will do in class assignments using all the basics of Microsoft Office Products. Students learn age appropriate internet safety with Faux Paw the Techno Cat.
